Time to Sew

This week is going to be a sewing week. I have 4 valances that I am going to finish for a client and then I need to talk with a neighbor who would like me to make a slipcover for a chair. I'd really like to get these things finished quickly so I can do some personal sewing. Poor Arthur is coming through the knees in his play pants. I have so much material on hand, that it doesn't make sense to buy pants. Time is the issue around here. There always seems to be something else to take me away from sewing. Since the sun is shining, Artur is going outside and I'm going to sew!

Saturday my sister is running a marathon in Prague where she lives. Check out her blog in my blog list!

Business Website

This last week I was able to spend some time updating my business website for Sew It Seams. I am still working on getting a full price list for sewing different things, especially clothing and alterations. Since I specialize in home decor sewing, I haven't really nailed prices down for clothing. When you find you have a chance to check it out, please take a look a look at my website and tell me what you think! I'd love to hear from you! http://sew-it-seams.weebly.com

Everybody, in the pool!

Arthur began swim lessons yesterday morning. These will run for two weeks, thirty minutes each day.

The first lesson, Arthur was feeling quite timid in the water. Even with a life vest on, he didn't want to venture too far from the side of the pool. The instructor, however, was able to convince him to float around a bit while she pulled him.

This morning Arthur spent the first half of the lesson wanting to just float around. He does have a life vest on during the lesson, so there is no fear of going too far under the water. While the instructor worked with the other children, she and I noticed Arthur testing the water by putting his chin and then his mouth into the water. Soon, he was ready to do anything the instructor asked him to do.

The next hurdle will be to get him past the phobia of putting his ears in the water. I'm hoping it is just because his ears are slightly plugged from a recent illness and that he'll be like a fish in water in no time.

Second Quilt of 2009

I am well on my way of keeping my goal of finishing a quilt a month! I finished the binding on this quilt in the morning and it will be delivered either Sunday or Monday to a lady from our church.

This lady had open heart surgery just before Christmas. I asked the ladies from our church to make a nine patch block and an applique heart block. I then sewed all of them together into this lovely quilt. All the blocks look so great together! Everyone did a fantastic job!

First Quilt of the Year

One of my resolutions for the year is to finish one quilt each month. I am well on my way with my first quilt of 2009 being finished this morning.

This quilt has 9 pairs of flip flops with different ribbons at the straps. When I put the top together it didn't seem long enough, so I added a row of pinwheels at the top and bottom of the quilt. Now, it is about 55 x 65.

I made this quilt for my niece's 13th birthday. Unfortunately, that birthday was in October. I'll still send it along to her and hope she likes it.

My next quilt is a quilt I've organized with the ladies from our church. We have a lady in our church who underwent some sudden and severe heart surgery in December. I live too far away to do much daily for her and don't have money to give. While looking through some magazines, I discovered a quilt that would be perfect to make for her and easy enough for others to make, too. So far, I have 11 sets of blocks turned in and 6 more promised. That will give me 17 sets. Ideally, I'd like 26, but I'll have to look through my sketches and notes to see what will be best. I'd really like to have the top put together by next weekend and the quilt ready to give the following weekend.

Other sewing news, I'm behind in my other sewing. I had wanted to make a robe for Arthur this month, but didn't. I also didn't get 3 valences done. The valences are priority, so I'll be working on those this coming week. Arthur and I have both been sick the last couple of weeks and that has slowed us down a bit. We'll take it easy for the next few days and, hopefully, be back on track soon!

Pinning Away

I was able to spend a good bit of time working on quilt that I had wanted to finish last October. I became disenchanted with it during the summer when I had problems with the sashings and borders. I never seemed to have quite enough fabric for what I wanted to do. Last month, I finally just pieced some pieces together to make it work. Then I realized that the quilt probably wouldn't be big enough to really cuddle with, so back to the drawing board. I added a row of pinwheels to the top and bottom and it is now a great size.

Today, I laid out the backing, batting and quilt top and pin basted the whole thing together. I now need to decide on the quilting design and should be able to have a completed quilt by the end of January! I hope to post a picture as soon as it is done.
